Qualifications
1. Diplomate
- A member who has completed a formal periodontic program from PBP accredited schools and/or institutions
- AND has passed Part I (written) and Part II (oral) Diplomate Examination of the PBP
- AND has been certified by the PBP to meet the standards of academic knowledge and clinical proficiency in the field of Periodontics
- Those who have been certified as diplomates from other countries SHOULD still undergo and pass Parts I (written), II (oral) Diplomate Examination of the PBP to be recognized as Diplomate by the PBP
- Once a Diplomate, to maintain status as diplomate, there will be a recertifcation (written) exam every 6 years
- AND should be attending Continuing Education Credits as required by the PBP
2. Fellow
- A member who has completed a formal periodontal graduate program from PBP accredited schools and/or institutions
- AND has passed Parts I (written) of the Diplomate Examination of PBP
- A fellow has 6 years to be eligible for Diplomate status. If 6 years has passed and fellow did not pursue Diplomate Status, then Fellow will need to take a recertification exam (revalidate written exam) to maintain fellow status
- AND should be attending Continuing Education Credits as required by the PBP
Once Fellow becomes a Diplomate, Fellow Status is dropped. One cannot have BOTH Diplomate and Fellow under his/her name.
